KOSMOS  “Käärmesormus”     (LIZARD CD 0206)barcode: 8003102202060Ogni nuovo album dei finlandesi KOSMOS è un evento molto speciale, per la loro incantevole coerenza estetica: nessuna concessione a modernariato trendy, bensì un sound che coniuga psichedelia, folk, progressive, con toni malinconici (un ruolo da protagonista del mellotron e della dolce vocalità femminile di Paivi Kilmanen), ma anche epici, esoterici, ricchi di pathos nordico.
Il canto in lingua madre ne accentual’originalità e la bellezza di atmosfere psych-folk  scandinave.“Käärmesormus” (Anello del serpente) è il sesto album, probabilmente il più cupo, sia per la musica e sia per i testi. Testi dal respiro mistico, cosmico, accompagnati da una strumentazione rock tradizionale, ma anche dal mellotron, dal violino, dal sassofono.
Nove canzoni, con una prima parte dal respiro più lieve e pastorale (tra cui una bellissima versione finlandese della tradizionale “Scarebourough fair”, resa famosa da Simon & Garfunnkel che qui diventa “Tuuli kay lavit sein”, ovvero “The wind is blowing through me”), a cui fa seguito una seconda parte dagli oscuri riff elettrici e un crescendo epico, ancestrale.Each new album by Finnish band KOSMOS is a very special event, due to their enchanting aesthetic coherence: no concessions to trendy modernism, but rather a sound that combines psychedelia, folk, and progressive, with melancholic overtones (with a starring role in the mellotron and Paivi Kilmanen’s sweet vocals), but also epic, esoteric, and rich with Nordic pathos.Their native-language singing accentuates their originality and the beauty of their Scandinavian psych-folk atmospheres.
“Kaarmesormus” (Serpent Ring) is their sixth album, arguably their darkest, both musically and lyrically. The lyrics have a mystical, cosmic feel, accompanied by traditional rock instrumentation, as well as mellotron, violin, and saxophone.Nine songs, with a first part with a lighter, more pastoral feel (including a beautiful Finnish version of the traditional “Scarebourough fair,” made famous by Simon & Garfunkel, which here becomes “Tuuli kay lavit sein,” or “The wind is blowing through me”) followed by a second part with dark electric riffs and an epic, ancestral crescendo.
