CORPO “III” (LIZARD CD 0158)
“III” is the new record of CORPO four years after the publication of their works dating back to 1979. The enthusiastic critics which welcomed their previous work precede this new production of Francesco and Biagio Calignano. Produced and mastered by Paolo Bergese (Airportman), “III” is a mix of different styles and calls to their first works mainly thanks to long and complex instrumental pieces. Nevertheless, there are many elements of discontinuity with their musical production of the Seventies, and the main stylistic novelties range from the symphonic setting of the compositions and the modern use of electronics to the presence of jazz elements. ‘III’ is an album rich of cultured influences and extremely personal. Andrea Pomini wrote in the music magazine Rumore “who was able to play like the Corpo in 1979?”. Well, nowadays we can ask the same question. The album has been published by Lizard Records and distributed in Italy and abroad.
Corpo – Biografia
I Corpo si sono formati a Montesardo (LE) nel 1969. Gli anni ’70 si sono contraddistinti da un’intensa attività dal vivo che li ha portati a suonare in molti Paesi europei e a diventare una band di culto in Svizzera e Germania. Acclamati dalla critica per il loro originalissimo mix di jazz-rock, krautrock, psichedelia e intuizioni zappiane e corteggiati da produttori e discografici internazionali, nel 1977 si rifiutarono di pubblicare l’album di debutto in Francia a causa della loro idiosincrasia nei confronti dei meccanismi dell’industria musicale. La loro corposa produzione in studio relativa agli anni ’70 ha avuto il giusto riconoscimento nel 2016 grazie all’interessamento di Loris Furlan e Lizard Records. L’etichetta veneta, infatti, ha stampato due album (I & II) contenenti registrazioni del 1979. I dischi, pubblicati da Lizard in un unico cofanetto, hanno riacceso i riflettori sul gruppo salentino e suscitato entusiasmo in Italia e all’estero. II compianto giornalista Enrico Ramunni ha scritto di loro che rappresentano una realtà “del tutto inedita per il panorama italiano”, mentre Andrea Pomini, elogiando l’originalità delle composizioni dei Corpo su Rumore, si domanda: “Chi altro suonava così, nel ‘79?”. Nel 2020, Francesco e Biagio Calignano, con un cameo del fratello Mario, danno alle stampe “III”, album di musica ‘totale’ che promette fin da ora di diventare un caposaldo della produzione della gloriosa etichetta Lizard Records e un classico della musica indipendente italiana.
Corpo – Biography
The band Corpo was formed in Montesardo (near Lecce, in Salento) in 1969. In the Seventies, they toured Europe and became a cult band in Switzerland and Germany. Music critics loved their original mix of jazz rock, krautrock, psychedelia and calls to Frank Zappa. In 1977, when asked to publish their debut album in France, they refused to do so because of their lack of confidence in the mechanisms of musical industry. Their rich studio production of the Seventies was highlighted by Loris Furlan and the Venetian record company Lizard Records in 2016. Lizard released two albums (I & II) with some of their pieces produced in 1979. These records, published by Lizard in one single box set, have lit again a fire underneath the Corpo and have been welcomed in Italy and abroad. The late critic Enrico Ramunni wrote that Corpo represented an entirely new musical reality in Italy. Another critic, Andrea Pomini, beside praising their originality wrote in the music magazine Rumore “who else was able to play like the Corpo in 1979?”. In 2020, Francesco and Biagio Calignano (with their brother Mario playing in one piece) are going to publish “III”, an album of ‘total’ music that is likely to become a stronghold of glorious Lizard ‘s production and a classic of Italian independent music.
