Esce in coproduzione tra l’etichetta siciliana Isulafactory la trevigiana Lizard Records, “Bandra West” il nuovo album dell’ecclettico chitarrista e compositore Raffaele Matta in trio con il batterista Nicola Vacca e il bassista Andrea Parodo.

Traiettorie musicali da terre lontane: un viaggio verso est, partendo dalla Sardegna con destinazione India, Vietnam, Tailandia con una lunga sosta Mumbai.
Bandra West è un quartiere di Mumbai, città che dopo diversi concerti nel subcontinente è ormai familiare a tutti i membri del trio. Questo disco raccoglie e rappresenta suoni e immagini di alcuni dei luoghi dove il trio ha portato la propria musica, un omaggio all’Asia ma soprattutto all’India. Otto brani con chiari riferimenti emotivi e geografici, a tratti direzionali e a tratti ciclici, circolari, come dei mantra che si ripetono ogni volta con delle sottili variazioni. È possibile così scorgere, all’interno delle composizioni di richiamo jazzistico, caratterizzazioni rock, elettroniche e mediorientali, conspazi sonori ampi e meditativi, il tutto con un chiaro rimando ad alcune sonorità e sperimentazioni tipiche della musica contemporaneaeuropea e alla musica classica Indiana. Altra peculiarità del progetto è l’approccio ritmico, basato su un sistema numerico per costruire dei pattern, nei quali la batteria è libera di improvvisare all’interno di una progressione ritmica, come farebbe uno strumento melodico su una progressione armonica.

Bandra West”, the new album by the eclectic guitarist and composer Raffaele Matta in a trio with the drummer Nicola Vacca and the bassist Andrea Parodo, is released in co-production between the Sicilian label Isulafactory and the Treviso-based Lizard Records.

Musical trajectories from distant lands: a journey eastwards, starting from Sardinia towards India, Vietnam, Thailand with a long stop in Mumbai.
Bandra West is a neighborhood of Mumbai, a city that after several concerts in the subcontinent is now familiar to all the members of the trio. This album collects and represents sounds and images of some of the places where the trio brought their music, a tribute to Asia but above all to India.
Eight songs with clear emotional and geographical references, sometimes directional and sometimes cyclical, circular, like mantras that are repeated each time with subtle variations. It is thus possible to perceive, within the compositions with a jazz appeal, rock, electronic and Middle Eastern characterizations, with large and meditative sound spaces, all with a clear reference to some sounds and experiments typical of contemporary European music and to Indian classical music.
Another peculiarity of the project is the rhythmic approach, based on a numerical system to build patterns, in which the drums are free to improvise within a rhythmic progression, as a melodic instrument would do on a harmonic progression.
